Toulouse Football Club has been ordered to pay 345,000 euros to its former coach Patrice Garande. The court ruling, made public on Tuesday, ends a five-year legal dispute over a dismissal for serious misconduct that the club could not substantiate.
Garande joined Toulouse in June 2020, following the club's relegation to Ligue 2. He achieved his objective of reaching the promotion playoffs, with TFC finishing third in the league. Promotion slipped away in a penalty shootout defeat to Nantes. The club dismissed him shortly after the 2020-2021 season concluded.
The former SM Caen manager said in February 2026 that he struggled with the manner of his exit. "I very badly lived my eviction from Toulouse," he said. He then took the job at Dijon, a move he later regretted. "Afterwards, without being aware that's what it was at the start, I suffered from depression," he added. Garande ended his coaching career after his spell at Dijon in May 2022 and experienced six terrible months.
This financial penalty comes as the first team struggles at the start of the Ligue 1 season. Toulouse currently sits 17th with just two points from four games. Their recent form reads five matches without a win (DLDLL).
The next challenge is a home fixture against 16th-placed Le Havre on Saturday, September 19. The club must now move past this legal affair and focus on the pressing matters on the pitch.
